Backlit collage of French legal documents with glowing central oval and two illuminated circles, one softly tinted blue
Solar System Series #3

This illuminated collage, titled Solar System 3, transforms 18th- and 19th-century French contracts into a luminous paper sculpture. Cut and assembled by hand, each sheet in the collage carries its own history—variations in ink, handwriting, paper tone, and revenue stamps contribute to a surface rich in texture and visual rhythm. Behind the collage, three geometric forms—an oval and two circles—are selectively backlit with LEDs, shifting the viewer’s attention with each lighting configuration. In this view, the central oval and two inner circles glow—one in blue—drawing focus inward; in another configuration, the outer oval glows instead. The changing light brings out nuances in the paper’s surface, revealing the intricate detail and variation within the mosaic. With its interplay of light, history, and composition, the work becomes both a visual meditation and a celebration of the written document—rooted in the formal language of Geometric Abstraction, where shape, proportion, and spatial balance guide the viewer’s experience.
