Séchoir à fromage
This sculpture is anchored by a vintage French cheese-drying rack, its circular form repurposed as a structural and visual framework. At the center is a zinc mechanical music disc, likely from a French hurdy-gurdy, flanked by sections of a cut violin and full pages of handwritten musical notation. Brass rods radiate outward from the disc, with brass buttons marking their paths—creating a deliberate visual cadence that echoes the radial design. When lit, the entire composition takes on a hypnotic presence, drawing the viewer into its symmetry and layered references. The form suggests both a mandala and an iris, inviting interpretations that move between the mechanical and the symbolic. Rooted in object-based Surrealism, the sculpture draws on familiar parts from musical and industrial contexts, transforming them into something contemplative, precise, and unexpectedly resonant.
