Study in Colored Variance

Description

This sculpture was inspired by the series of paintings that Monet made of the Rouen Cathedral under different lighting conditions. In the case of "Study in Colored Variance" my goal was to create two identical still life frames consisting of a hand and a ping pong ball. These frames would be distinguished only in the way in which they were being lit. The ping pong ball, the hand, and the background are each lit independently, thereby creating a contrast of colors upon the frames. A closer inspection will reveal that there is some variation also in the way the ping pong balls are shadowed.
